ABOUT US

The BSMFT has been set up to promote Myofunctional Therapy (MFT) with an interdisciplinary approach, integrating knowledge and methods from different disciplines and working collaboratively with a common purpose to set goals, make decisions and share resources and responsibilities.

Our board is made up of a team of clinicians from different disciplines working with MFT, keen to promote collaborative clinical work and further research in MFT. Working with patients, we support each other to undertake assessments, diagnosis, intervention, goal-setting and the creation of care plans, involving patients, their families and carers in any discussions about their condition, prognosis and treatment plan.

The BSMFT is designed to support clinicians across the UK and internationally to build interdisciplinary teams.

Our clinical board is happy to guide members in the right direction on their MFT journey, sharing resources, protocols and strategies and learning together from existing and past clinical cases.

Who can treat OMDs?

Orofacial Myology is postgraduate training for Dental Care Professionals (Dental Hygienist and Therapists, Dentists, Dental Nurses) and Speech and Language Therapists. In the UK these are the only healthcare professionals with the skill set, knowledge of the head and neck, and remit to train in this field and provide this specialist treatment.

Other Health care professional may be able to take familiarisation training in the subject to enhance referral pathways and provide patient information.

Practitioners must be insured to practice Myofunctional Therapy and be registered with their relevant governing bodies (GDC or RCSLT respectively).

Note: Dental Nurses trained in Orofacial Myology will be able to assist with the provision of the therapy only. OMD diagnostics and treatment planing is reserved for Orofacial Myology practitioners who have diagnostics within their scope of practice.

BOARD MEMBER

Dental and Myofunctional Therapist.

I thrive on empowering and supporting people through their health and wellbeing journey.

How do I connect with wellness? Working through my own wellness journey of hormonal imbalances, I’ve learnt that a one-size fits all approach to nutrition and lifestyle doesn’t work. Instead, I listen and connect with my own body using my intuition to guide me. Taking time to meditate and relax helps to calm the hustle and bustle of daily life allowing me to tune in to my body and mind.
