BSMFT

Membership & Practice Policy (UK OMT)

Who Can Practice in the UK:

OMT is non-regulated in the UK. Practitioners not registered with UK statutory bodies (GDC, HCPC, etc.) may provide OMT services if all of the following conditions are met:
  • Operate strictly within OMT’s non-regulated scope.
    • Exception: UK-registered practitioners (e.g., GDC dental professionals or HCPC SLTs) may integrate OMT within their statutory scope.
  • Hold a valid UK work visa or settled/pre-settled status.
  • Maintain professional indemnity insurance valid for UK practice, specifically covering OMT.
  • Provide a current certificate of registration from their home country’s professional regulatory body.
  • Provide documentation of OMT training equivalent to UK RDH/SLT standards, including:
    • Minimum 28 hours introductory OMT training with a BSMFT-approved provider (listed on the website).
    • Any advanced training for optional BSMFT-OMT (Adv) designation.
  • Provide proof of English language proficiency, e.g., IELTS 7.0 overall, no component below 6.5 (or equivalent).

Clarification

OMT is non-regulated; BSMFT membership or foreign registration does not confer statutory registration or regulated practice rights for non-UK-registered practitioners.
